From your first lesson to riding on your own
Lessons follow the IKO course, the international standard for kite schools. How many lessons you need depends on you and on the wind.
Discovery
On the beach first: how the wind works, safety, and flying the kite. Then into the water, letting the kite pull you along without a board.
Intermediate
The board goes on your feet. You practise water starts until you ride your first metres.
Independent
Riding both ways, holding your ground upwind, and launching and landing the kite safely on your own.
All the gear you need on the water is there, from the kite to your helmet. You learn on recent Vantage kites.
Prices and available days: ask Michiel on WhatsApp.
Meet Michiel
Michiel Messing is an IKO-certified kite instructor based in Bunkeflostrand, just south of Malmö. He runs the school himself, so the instructor on the beach is the same person you booked with.
He teaches at different spots along the coast and picks the one where the wind is best that day. You can learn in Swedish, English or Dutch.
Wind updates and photos from recent sessions are on Instagram.
Questions
Do I need any experience?
No. The first lesson starts on the beach with the basics of the wind and the kite, before you go into the water.
What happens if there’s no wind?
Then there’s no lesson that day. Kiting needs the right wind, so Michiel keeps an eye on the forecast and picks another day with you.
Where do lessons take place?
At Bunkeflostrand, Ljunghusen or another spot nearby, depending on the wind that day. You’ll hear where to meet when your lesson is confirmed.
Which languages are the lessons in?
Swedish, English and Dutch.
How much does a lesson cost?
Send Michiel a message on WhatsApp with what you’d like to learn. He’ll tell you the price and the next days with good wind. Message Michiel
